The U.S. Navy F-18 Super Hornet is a carrier-based multirole fighter. Although known for its size and speed, this top line aircraft also has amazing maneuverability that it will demonstrate at the Oregon International Air Show. Survivability is an important feature of the Super Hornet design. Its design incorporates a combination of stealth, advanced electronic-warfare capabilities, reduced ballistic vulnerability, the use of standoff weapons, and innovative tactics that cumulatively and collectively enhance the safety of the fighter and crew. The Super Hornet entered service with the U.S. Navy in 1999, replacing the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, and serves alongside the original Hornet.
