Douglas A4-E Skyhawk

A-4 Skyhawk

Early in the Korean War, designer Ed Heinemann became concerned with the growing weight and cost of fighters and set out to design one to reverse the trend. The result was the A-4 Skyhawk; one of the lightest attack aircraft ever built. The smallest aircraft ever capable of carrying a nuclear weapon, it won fame hauling conventional bombs in Vietnam, bearing the brunt of the Navy’s missions in the first years of the war.
