Hack to Hide
General History of the B-25 Mitchell
Introduced in 1941, this American medium bomber was named after Brigadier General William ‘Billy’ Mitchell, a visionary pioneer and a founding father of U.S. military aviation.
Soldiering in every theater of World War II, the aircraft was utilized by nearly all Allied air forces and remained in service for over four decades post-war. While nearly 10,000 B-25s were built, only about 45 of these warbirds remain airworthy today, preserved as flying tributes to aviation history.

About the Museum's B-25 Mitchell
The North American B-25 Mitchell is widely considered the premier American medium bomber of World War II. Its reputation as a legend was shaped through rugged reliability and unmatched versatility.
With max speeds from 272-300 miles per hour, the Mitchell was powered by twin Wright R-2600 Cyclone engines, giving the aircraft the brute strength needed to take off from short, rough runways that would have grounded other bombers. This design made the B-25 a truly adaptable machine- one capable of everything from high-altitude bombing to daring, low-level attacks.
