About the F-35B Lightning II Demo Team

Based out of MCAS Miramar, the USMC F-35 Lightning II Demo Team travels the country each air show season to demonstrate the incredible capabilities of the F-35B and the unmatched skills of its pilots.

About the F-35B Lightning II

The F-35B is a 5th-generation fighter jet that is operated by the U.S. Marine Corps. It entered service in 2015, and was a replacement for the Marines Corps’ aging Harrier, Hornet, and Prowler fleet.

US Marines F-35B
The F-35B was designed with next generation stealth and technology to enhance the mission capabilities of the Marine Corps. It provides them with an unmatched ability to operate in virtually every setting including aircraft carriers and rough, remote locations. The technology gives pilots a clear look at what they are encountering in the moment, allowing them to make more informed decisions.

USAF F-35B vertical Landing

You may notice that similarly to the Harrier, the F-35B can hover and land vertically. This unique feature allows the USMC to operate in spaces that conventional landing aircraft may not be able to reach. The F-35B can also take off in a short distance, allowing them to land on aircraft carriers.
